  Exclusive Fright Night Fan Screening
  Donald Kent - July 21, 2011

The Director, Craig Gillespie, came out to introduce the panel for “Fright Night” Gillespie which included writer Marti Noxon, Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. But, it didn’t stop there, the brought out Chris Sarandon, the original Jerry Dandrige, to moderate the panel.

Many clips are shown from the movie and one extended clip that must’ve lasted at least 10 minutes. We are shown a scene where Evil Ed tries to convince Charlie that his next door neighbor is a vampire, there is even a funny “Twilight” reference in this scene. The next clip involved a very intimidating Jerry coming over to borrow some beer. What was shown next involved a scene featuring Charlie going to see Peter Vincent to help with his vampire problem and take down Jerry. This scene was pretty funny as the Peter Vincent character comes out of character and how his spandex doesn’t quite fit right. The final clip was very long and quite exciting. It involved a demented Colin Farrell, explosions, car chases, and humor as well.

I had super low expectations going in and I was not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised because what I did see was a movie that mixes comedy and horror and doesn’t go over the top with either. I hate to admit it, but I also believe Colin Farrell plays a very threatening and intimidating vampire and from what I saw his performances in the clips is what surprised me the most. I don’t know if it was a combination of my very low expectations or how this movie is more complete than the movies I seen the entire day, but this was my sleeper surprise.

Although, this movie surprised me, it doesn’t mean that I believe this is going to be great. Going in I had no desire to see this move, but it elevated my expectations enough that I’m curious and I will be checking it out only as a rental. Also a side note, the car chase clip contained numerous expletives, especially the use of the word Fuck, so if you’re sensitive to profanity stay away from this movie.

Highlights from the panel are Colin Farrell’s hesitant approach to film this movie because he can’t top Chris Sarandon as the true Jerry Dandrige. Colin accepts the role only because they took the character Jerry in a new direction. Christopher Mintz-Plasse also dispels rumors of “Kick-Ass 2” and a random fan asks for Colin’s name tag, in which Colin proceeded to sign his tag and gives it to the lucky girl.

At one point the crowd was told they could enter a contest via text to win a chance to see a screening at a fan appreciation party which featured the cast and crew. Check out the footage below from the party and hall h interviews.
