SDCC: VH1's Dawn of the Con Wrap-up
When I heard VH1 was kicking off Comic-Con Thursday night by taking over Petco Park with Rob Zombie I was pretty excited to say the least. The event was held from 5:30 PM - 11:00 PM and the event was to include Rob Zombie rocking out and new footage from Lords of Salem.

SDCC: Grimm Takes Over Comic-Con
Grimm is one of two TV shows with a storyline based on a retelling of fairy tales, a relatively popular undertaking this year.  As you may have guessed by the name, its episodes, at least for the first season, were largely based on the tales of the Brothers Grimm. Grimm had a large presence at Comic-Con this year.

SDCC: Burton Resurrects Dead Dog Tale in Frankenweenie
Costumed fans made quirky film director Tim Burton feel right at home Thursday at Comic-Con's Hall H, where he previewed his fall movie "Frankenweenie. Many of those at his presentation ere dressed as characters from his films, such as "Alice in Wonderland," "Beetlejuice" and this summer's film version of the soap opera "Dark Shadows."

SDCC: Monsterverse Entertainment Panel
The name of artist Kerry Gammill was familiar to me from his work at DC Comics in the early to mid-90s. After moving to Marvel for a few years, he left comic books and worked in advertising. In a panel on Thursday evening at Comic-Con, Gammill explained his return to comics and the formation of his own company, Monsterverse Entertainment.

SDCC: The Silent Hill Nurses Return in the Revelations Sequel
During the Silent Hill Revelations 3D Hall H panel director Michael Basset unveiled the first scenes from his new film based on the third video game and a sequel to the original film. During an interview with the press he said some monsters will be back from the original film with a few new ones mixed in as well. Check out the exclusive clip released at San Diego Comic-Con this past week.

SDCC: Oz the Great and Powerful - Not in Kansas Anymore
Oz the Great and Powerful made its trailer debut in Hall H at Comic-Con to a good reaction from the fans in attendance. Even though Disney is behind the film it appears there may be some darker moments. Just how dark I'm not sure but until someone makes a Twisted Land of Oz film I may not be satisfied.

SDCC: Godzilla Stomps Into Hall H With a Suprirse Trailer
In a surprise twist Warner Brothers debuted the new Godzilla trailer to a big crowd that gave it an overwhelming positive reaction. The 1:00 - 1:30 teaser trailer gave me chills. Finally someone has done a modern day Godzilla movie the right way.

SDCC: Paranorman Hall H Panel and Clip
The ParaNorman panel was a true treat at Comic-Con.  For starters, the panel was being held in Hall H, the largest room at Comic-Con.  It was also being held before panels for The Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones.  I didn't hold my breath when I found myself at the end of a line nearly a mile long.

SDCC: The Walking Dead Hall H Panel
Of the dozens of panels at Comic-Con, the one I really really really wanted to see was the panel for The Walking Dead TV series.  It is my favorite show on TV and, judging by the crowd in Hall H and the line of people wanting to get it, it is the favorite of countless others as well.

SDCC: Dark Horse Announces Lance Henriksen's Comic
Dark Horse Comics is proud to announce To Hell You Ride, written by horror movie icon Lance Henriksen (Millennium, Aliens, Near Dark) Teased during a thrilling "Drawing on Your Nightmares" panel at San Diego Comic-Con, this new horror series is written by Lance Henriksen and Joseph Maddrey (Nightmares in Red, White and Blue: The Evolution of the American Horror Film)

SDCC: The Walking Dead Comic Panel Featuring Kirkman
The Walking Dead had a huge presence at Comic-Con this year. Although many people became fans because of the hit TV show, the comic on which the show is based is also hugely popular. The panel for The Walking Dead comic was held the day before the show's panel in a much smaller room, but the crowd was no less enthusiastic.

SDCC: The Walking Dead Michonne Booth
The Walking Dead had a lot of things going on at Comic-Con this year. The Walking Dead Escape outside the convention hall, debuting issue #100, press conferences, autograph session and a Hall H panel. But for people that didn't want to camp out or drop a lot of cash they could stand in line for about an hour for a unique photo.

SDCC: The Walking Dead Escape - Otis Bait
With the popularity of The Walking Dead growing each year - it was no surprise the show spread outside of the convention center booth this year. While The Walking Dead Escape isn't an official Walking Dead property, it was endorsed by the show. The tagline "Live the Apocaylse" captures the very essence of the experience.

SDCC: 666 Park Avenue Pilot Screening and Panel
Actually, it's 999 Park Avenue, but when the address on the ritzy New York apartment building is lit from below, the shadow it casts is 666. It's more than a little obvious, as is the story, even though producers on the panel following Comic-Con screening of the pilot in Room 6B claim the show is full of mystery and mythology.

SDCC: New CW Series Has Cult Potential
One of the things I like about Comic-Con is not only that I get to see television pilots before anyone else, but that I also get to see them before I have even heard anything about them. For example, I had no idea what Cult was going to be about, so watching it Friday afternoon in Room 6B was an entirely original experience for me.

SDCC: Famous Monsters of Filmland Panel and Booth
My final panel on Thursday was in many ways an echo of one I attended earlier that day. Like the Creepy and Eerie brands, Famous Monsters of Filmland is another classic magazine that struggles with the process of balancing past and present. (In my opinion, recent issues haven't entirely succeeded in doing so.

SDCC: Uncle Creepy Presents - Creepy and Eerie Panel
It is no longer enough to simply publish a magazine. Rather than solely providing material for monthly print consumption, magazines must also offer a brand that can be slapped on movies, television shows, and a variety of other consumer items. This makes sense, I guess, as electronic media consumes an old business model.

SDCC: The Nairwolves of MTV's Teen Wolf
If you've followed my writing on Downright Creepy, you already know that my guilty pleasure television series is MTV's Teen Wolf. One of the things I anticipated at Comic-Con was attending the panel on Thursday afternoon in Room 6A.

SDCC: Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse,
Not With a Bang With a Bite

At the Comic-Con panel, "Not with a Bang, with a Bite", eight authors of zombie novels discussed various aspects of a potential zombie apocalypse.  To me, the most recognizable name on the panel was Max Brooks, author of World War Z.

SDCC: How to Obtain Autographs at San Diego Comic-Con
At the time, it seemed like a lot of hoops to jump through; however, after later experiences at Comic-Con, I must say that CBS really had it figured out. I'm talking about the process of obtaining an autograph of your favorite movie and television stars at Comic-Con.
