I have not seen the new “Underworld” movie yet. I have only seen the first 2 and am not a huge fan of the series. Which is surprising because it contains so many things I love: the Gothic setting, the fashion, the star-crossed love story, and vampires! I'm thinking this new one should be very entertaining in 3D. Plus, who doesn't want to see Kate Beckinsale in that leather bodysuit, black hair and blue eyes?? She is breathtaking.

Texas Frightmare Weekend update:
They've announced two more “Carrie” stars: P.J. Soles and Betty Buckley. Soles is also in John Carpenter's “Halloween” as Lynda; Laurie's slutty friend who flashes Michael Myers. More recently she had a little cameo in “The Devils Rejects”. She plays a mom in the scene where Captain Spaulding hijacks her car for “super secret clown business”. He knocks her out and says to her child, "...I'm gonna come back and check on you and your momma. If you don't have a reason for why you hate clowns, I'm gonna kill your whole fuckin' family." I think little cameos like that are such a cool way directors give back to the horror nerds out there! We are the only ones who notice.

They've also announced an after-party for Friday, Prom Night!
Live out your 80's dream and get a prom picture with Anthony Michael Hall (“The Breakfast Club”, “Pretty in Pink”, “Edward Scissorhands”)!
Movie of the Week:
Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
Directed by Samuel Bayer
This week I stopped at a Blockbuster closing sale and bought a few used Blu-rays: Rob Zombie's “Halloween II”, “Trick 'r Treat”, and “Nightmare on Elm Street” (remake). I got all three for less then $12, can't complain.
Before now, I had only seen “Nightmare” back when it was first released in theater. I am pleasantly surprised by this remake. The scene from the original when Nancy sees a bloody body bag being dragged down the hall in school is replicated along with Freddy's glove coming out of the water in the bathtub. There really aren't any dull moments. They upped the gore, like with all remakes.
Nancy is played by Rooney Mara who currently stars in “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. The cast doesn't have many recognizable names. Katie Cassidy (Kris) was in the remake of “Melrose Place”; which only lasted one season. I know this because I watched it (don't tell anyone). I'm sure a lot of “Twilight” fans saw this film because of Kellan Lutz and were extremely disappointed that he died in the first 10 minutes. Krueger is played by Jackie Earle Haley. I heard a lot of people were not a fan of Haley or Krueger's new look. I think he did a good job, you can't expect him to be Robert Englund.

They take us far deeper into Krueger's back story then the original film. Although they never say it out-loud they lead us to assume he sexually abused the children. The original calls him a "child murderer". Dare I say this one is far creepier? Not that I would say anything bad about Wes Craven's masterpiece. I try to watch remakes with a clear mind; imagine being in junior high and seeing this version first. I would have loved it.
