DRC: Hey Danny thanks so much for joining us on the Creepcast today - what's up man?
DT: What's up?
DRC: Not much man - how are you?
DT: Fine - where you at?
DRC: I'm in Kansas City
DT: Kansas City...
DRC: And I'm going to see your buddy Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper tonight actually.
DT: OHHH Awesome! You know what - hey - when you see'em tell'em Trejo says hello!
DRC: I will man.
DT: In fact - tell'em we're suppose to do a Western.
DRC: I will man I gotta call Andy and talk to him but ah - yeah I think we'll be seeing him tonight - and I'll let him know you said hey.
DT: Yeah. Tell him lets do a Western because I pitched him a Western and he loved it.
DRC: I just wanna say congratulations on Machete.
DT: Yeah huh - it's kickin' a lil ass (laugh) It's still in some theaters out here man. It's been about a month and a half.
DRC: Yeah I think we still have it here as well. But I just wanna say since that was such a crazy film - I think I almost felt overwhelmed at times by how great it was - but I just want to know what was your favorite over the top scene to film from that?
DT: Oh my favorite scene was kissing Jessica Alba
DRC: Well hell yeah it was.
DT: (laugh) you know.
DRC: Now do you consider that an over the top scene because I think it would be for me.
DT: It was awesome - I kissed her 8 times and then my friends were trying to kiss me. (laughs)
DRC: (laughs) Yeah I don't blame them. Now speaking of Jessica Alba you had a lot of big names around you in this cast and you have in a ton of other movies too - we actually talked to Electra Avellan who played Nurse Mona awhile back about her experience and she said that you and Lindsay Lohan were her favorites to get a chance to work with. Do you have a favorite actor you worked with on this movie or any of your previous movies?

DT: Well you know - that movie it's weird - like you know they called me the lead - but the lead is only as good as your supporting cast. You have nothing but lead players there. You have Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez, you know Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and you know who tops Steven Segal?
DRC: Yeah I mean it's pretty incredible. Now I know that Robert confirmed a few weeks ago that we're going to have some sequels to Machete. Do you know when those might start production or who might be back for those?
DT: Well you know what I asked him - 'When are we going to start writting Machete' and he just wrote back - it's wrote.
DRC: Well you guys have been thinking about this for quite awhile so maybe he had them wrote God knows how long ago right?
DT: Absolutely - we talked about this 16 years ago.
DRC: Now I gotta ask you one more question about Machete and then we'll move on to a few other things.
DT: Ok
DRC: If I text you after this interview will you text me back?
DT: (laughs) Machete don't text.
DRC: Text rates may apply
DT: Now wait a minute if I've heard that once I've heard it a million times.
DRC: Oh I bet!
DT: Every market I go into someone will say 'Machete don't text.' (laughs)
DRC: Isn't funny that is the one line they want to take away from the film? Did you guys watch the rest of the movie? (laugh)
DT: But you know that's an actually real because I kept trying to get in touch with Robert Rodriguez and he says 'Danny I'm always in a meeting when you call - text me!' So I said 'Matchete don't text' So when I saw that in the script I just thought it was hilarious. (laughs)
DRC: So he took that from an actual experience then?
DT: Exactly - Absolutely - We were at Comic Con - I kept sayin' how come you don't answer my calls? He says everytime you call me I'm in a meeting! Text me! I said 'Machete don't text'. It was funny dude. But yeah he's got a mind like a vice. You know? He remembers everything.
DRC: I've actually seen t-shirts that say "Machete Don't Text" on them - so - I don't know if you've seen those.

DT: (laughs)
DRC: I want to kind of bring this back full circle for a second and ask you how you got started in the movie business - I know the answer but if you don't mind sharing it with our listeners I think it's pretty interesting.
DT: I was a drug counselor and I was working with this teenage kid about 18 years old.He was trying to stay clean off of drugs and in 1985 he called me and said hey there is a lot of blow down here at my job - would you please come down and just hang with me you know for support? I said yeah so I went down to hang out with him and it was on the set of a movie called Runnaway Train with John Voight and Eric Roberts. He was a P.A. and he asked me if I wanted to be an extra in a movie and I said sure - an extra what? He said, can you act like a convict? When he said that, well I'd been in every prison in the state of California as an inmate - ya know? So I told him I'd give it a shot. I took off my shirt to put on the blue shirt the minute I took off my shirt I had that big tattoo on my chest. This guy comes over and says 'Hey you're Danny Trejo' and I said, yeah. He said Danny I saw you win the light-weight and welter-weight title up at San Quinton. And I said yeah - and we started talking and I knew this guy his name was Denny Bunker he was a writer. And I asked him what are you doing here? And he said I wrote the screenplay. He adapted the screenplay. And he offered me a job showing Eric Roberts how to box. I asked him what's it pay? He said 320 a day - and I said how bad do you want this guy beat up? You know $320! I always charged everybody else 50 bucks. They hired me as a trainer - then Andrei Konchalovsky saw me and said hey you wanna be in this movie? So he put me in a movie.
DRC: That's awesome man! Since you've dealt with people as a drug counselor - alcoholism perhaps - just out of curiousity did you have any advice or did Lindsay Lohan come to you on set at any time...
DT: You know what... Lindsay's problem is... on the set she's a complete professional. She's great on the set. Secret to Lindsay's success is to keep working! She's a total professional on the set. I never had a bad experience with Lindsay. And you know in her defense if there is such a thing as a defense. She's young girl partying and she has a camera following her all the time. So she gets caught in everything she does.
DRC: You know from what I've heard from everybody as far as her on set she's great - she's great to work with. So yeah you're probably right it's just one of those things that is hard to overcome for some people. So it's completely understandable.
DT: Check the people around her - the people around her. I have people around me that keep me pretty grounded - that let me know, hey, this is just a job. Do your job. And now part of your job is even offset because you're on camera all the time.
DRC: I want to move onto a couple of movie rumors that I've heard...
DT: Yeah! We've got some great ones coming out! We've got Skinny Dip! You know my son who was in Machete - my son was the artist that was walking around drawing pictures all the time.
DRC: Really? I didn't know that!
DT: Yeah, he's producing a movie called Skinny Dip right now.
DRC: Now are you in that?
DT: I better be! (laughs) Little shit better not make me audition either! (laughs)
DRC: I've heard you're attached to Child's Play - is that true? Can you confirm that or do you know anything about the movie yet?
DT: You know I have no idea! People sometimes uh, I was suppose to be in Expendables - they said I was in Expendables when it was released. (laughs)
DRC: Then it was released and you weren't in it.
DT: If I had been in it, it would have made more money! (laughs)

DRC: I want to ask how your Comic Con experience went. I don't kow if you've been to Comic Con before, but I saw the taco truck for the promotion and it was fucking awesome.
DT: You know what, our event at Comic Con was as big as Comic Con. It become a real event and we just decided to put a taco truck in a parking lot and have some low riders. Show a couple clips of Machete - but Machete was so well recieved that we had to hire special security because the crowd. All four blocks were like, just full.
DRC: Yeah I saw the lines for that - that truck was amazing by the way. I saw Robert, now did you get inside too with Michelle and serve tacos?
DT: Absolutely! I served Tacos! They did a great job for us on the Taco Truck and the low riders.
DRC: Yeah that was amazing. So Comic Con is all about the fan experience. So when people knew we were having you on the podcast we asked some fans of the site if they have any questions for you. I have one here from Phillip Wicker. He said with a possible 10 films you have planned during 2011 - do you plan on having any down time to enjoy life outside the movie business? He also says you were awesome in Bubble Boy...an underrated film.
DT: (laughs) I love Bubble Boy! That was when Jake Gyellenhall was still a cute little kid.
DRC: I know right? Now look at him he's a big movie star. So do you have any plans for down time? I know Halloween is coming up - do you have any Halloween plans?
DT: You know what - it's like my down time is when I have a couple of days off from a movie - because people say when are you going to take a vacation? You know my life is kind of a vacation. If I'm in a nice spot I'll call the family and they'll come and we'll go fishing. Down time for me is boring.
DRC: Yeah I bet. Well you have so much going on right now that you probably don't have that much to begin with. We have a segment we started on the podcast since the name of our website is DownRight Creepy, we ask a creepy question to our guest. So I have a creepy question to ask you. You had two beautiful co-stars on the set of Machete, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, amongst others, who would you rather pull a cell phone out of?

DT: Pull a cell phone...(laughs) I'd be in a conference call on that one.
DRC: That's better than I could have ever imagined - the answer. (laughs)
DT: (laughs) We'd definately have a conference call there. (laughs)
DRC: (laughs) I'm gonna accept that. I'm gonna accept that. Alright we're running a little low on time, is there anything else we should keep an eye out for you have coming out soon?
DT: Ok I'm also doing a movie called Tranrantula and that's in Detriot. I'm also doing movie called Harold and Kumar that's coming out at Christmas. That's funny to man! Just finished that movie in New York. Right now we're doing Spy Kids 4.
DRC: I think I also saw Death Race 2 that's coming out?
DT: Death Race 2, I did that in South Africa yes! That's with uh, Rule, the directors name was Rule. Rule makes the Rules.
DRC: We'll look out for all of those things and your son's movie that is coming out - Skinny Dip. I want to say thank you so much for joining us on the Creepcast today. You seem like a great guy, really down to earth, I wish you the best and if you can come back on the show sometime we'd love to have ya.
DT: Thank, thank you, that meant a lot. Thank you very much.
DRC: Alright - take care Danny.
DT: Bye. Bye.
DRC: Bye. Bye.
